Conceived as a radical departure from the traditional global touring model, the residency was built as a local-first cultural intervention. Rather than exporting a spectacle, the project reclaimed physical space to center Boricua pride, collective memory, and a clear refusal of displacement. In collaboration with the team at STURDY., I contributed to the show’s previsualization throughout the creative process, helping translate early concepts and creative intent into tangible show moments. Previsualization supported ongoing exploration and refinement across multiple departments, serving as a core tool for alignment between creative vision and production reality.

The production featured a full-scale rural hillside and a traditional Puerto Rican house constructed inside the arena. Previsualization was essential in testing how these environments could exist at a large-scale show without losing their domestic, intimate feel, while still enabling powerful moments of immersion.

A massive LED video surface spanning the arena ceiling was used to create expansive set extensions. Through previs, the team developed atmospheric video content that immersed the audience in responsive skies and visual environments, bridging the physical stage with the architecture of the venue.

Accurate 3D models were continuously updated to reflect the evolving stage design and lighting plot. By previsualizing lighting, lasers, effects, and video content in direct relationship to the physical set, the team maintained a precise balance between high-intensity concert spectacle and the naturalistic, emotional tone required by the residency’s themes.

Several lighting compositions, transitions, and content ideas developed through previsualization informed elements that carried through into the final show. This process allowed key decisions to be made earlier, with greater clarity and confidence across teams.

‘No me quiero ir de aquí' functioned as a massive cultural and economic engine for Puerto Rico. Selling approximately 400,000 tickets, generating an estimated $200 million for local businesses, and breaking viewership records with its global livestream finale, the residency proved that live experiences can be site specific yet globally resonant.

The project demonstrated that large scale productions can fuel local economies and spotlight regional creativity by unfolding as collective rituals over time rather than one off events. It stands as a prototype for a future where live shows are rooted in place, economically generative, and culturally sovereign, sustaining communities while inspiring the world.
